Friday On My Mind MELBOURNE: THIS FRIDAY JULY 8
ACMI
ACMI & AFTRS Present Friday on My Mind: Melbourne
GUEST: BRODIE LANCASTER
This Friday we look at how an artistic film magazine can still be cool in the digital world.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! This Friday we delve into the world of the ‘zine.’ Host Philippa Hawker will be chatting to Brodie Lancaster about Filmme Fatales, the inventive and engaging film zine/journal of which she is founding editor. We'll discuss the story behind Filmme Fatales, the place of movies in popular culture, and the pleasures and pains of print in a digital world. And we'll have a look at the distinctive visual style she's devised for FF.
Brodie Lancaster: is a Melbourne-based editor and culture writer. She is a senior editor at The Good Copy and the founding editor of Filmme Fatales, a zine about women and cinema. She has written for Rookie, Pitchfork, Vulture and MTV News, and her first book, a pop culture memoir, will be published by Hachette in 2017.
Filmme Fatales launched in 2013 and has been committed to talking about movies in an accessible and non-boring way since then. It has been featured in the Reading Room at Melbourne Now, the National Gallery of Victoria’s landmark 2013–14 exhibition; the Melbourne International Film Festival’s 2014 Festival Lounge; and, in 2015, was named Magazine of the Week by preeminent magazine website MagCulture. It’s also been reviewed and featured by a number of publications around the world.
