Subjects you should study to work in the Art or Costume Department on a screen production include Art, Design and Technology, Textiles and Design, History, Geography, Maths. These subjects provide a sound basis upon which to build your knowledge of the real world that screen designers draw upon to create imaginary ‘story worlds’ and costumes for their characters.
Do your research when preparing for an interview; know your industry leaders and luminaries. Research the work of the person interviewing you, make it your business to know their last job, awards they have won, the people they have worked and still work with. Have a compliment ready commenting on how you loved their work on a particular project.
Use your initiative – you are more likely to work your way up the ladder faster by seeing what needs doing without being asked first
